This really does seem to be the ‘dog days’, warm days, not accomplishing very much. Well, I guess it depends on what I mean by very much. The various and assorted house projects are underway now. Yesterday the new counter tops were installed. I really like them. They give the whole kitchen a different look. I also had the chance to clean out all the cupboards, so was able to not only give them a good scrub, but got rid of unused stuff as well.
Today, the fence painting crew is here. They should finish tomorrow, so that will be another check off the list. The door replacement will be the biggest job and that will probably happen in the next couple of weeks.
The garden has been really nice this year. After all the rain, the heat has made everything grow like crazy. I spend time puttering about, taking photos of various flowers. If I could get my you-know-what in gear, I’d love to get up early and try to do a quick study of the garden as the sun is slanting at a good angle now. The light has changed to late summer now, hazier, more angular.
I haven’t done much in the way of painting and drawing at all the last while. I have got a start on one painting though. A woman who was at our spring show saw a photo I had done and wanted to know if I was going to make a painting of it. I had actually started it, but haven’t made a great deal of progress on it so far. Need to crack the whip or something.
I am going to get some workshopping in this fall, finally, if all goes well, etc etc. I am signed up to take a workshop in Vancouver in October with Alvero Castagnet. It is put on by an outfit called Art Escapes Vancouver. I can’t remember how I came across them – one of the magazines I think. This should be fun, plus it takes place on Granville Island, at the Granville Island Hotel. I love that area, so staying for the better part of a week will be wonderful in its own right.
I noticed that in this fall’s University community arts calendar that Miranda Jones is dong her ‘Off the Grid’ 2-weekend workshop again this year. I had seen it last year but wasn’t able to go because we were away. I am going to sign up for it too.
These dog days will pass, as they always do. It has been good to have some proper summer this year and it never lasts too long in this area. So just go with the flow and enjoy them. So I guess I will go take the dog for a short walk. He can’t go out in the yard as all the gates are open and he will just follow his nose and wander off.
